Leafy seadragons (Phycodurus eques) are found only in the waters of southern Australia. They belong to the Family Syngnathidae, which includes seahorses and pipefish. Seadragons are incredibly well camouflaged, with their leaf-like appendages bearing an amazing resemblance to kelp and sea grass.

As well as looking like seaweed, seadragons employ a rhythmic rocking motion that mimics the surging action of kelp. As in seahorses, seadragons reverse roles when rearing their young. The female lays her eggs under the male's tail, then he protects the eggs until they hatch in about two months.
